Welcome to the Street Ministry outreach guide. Before you begin reading about this outreach, we’d like to make sure you know what you need to about San Francisco’s inner city by visiting the Backstory Page.
What is it?
This team is so important to love on those that we meet, hear their story, pray for them, and share Jesus with them. One suggestion is to start with a question such as, “can I pray for you on anything?” or, “how is your day going?” We want them to see that we care and get into a conversation.
Many people on the streets have little or no ties to anyone to reach out for help. Often the issue is not a lack of services or resources the city can offer but a lack of care, love and attention. This can be shared to the street community through the Gospel. Those who are on the streets are often passed by and ignored. We stand in the gap for the street community through getting to know them, prayer and sharing there is One who is always with them and loves them.
As a part of the Street Ministry team, you will be working as a team to connect with people on the street who may call it their home. Different roles may include the muscle: carrying boxes or resources, hospitality: engage in conversation in a friendly way, and speaking the Word of God to those who may hear it, prayer and intercession for those who desire it and security to keep eyes and ears open over the group.
There are 30,000 residents of the Tenderloin and the City of San Francisco is host to about 6,000 homeless. Here at SF City Impact, we have a burden to reach this community with the Gospel; to make sure that every person has a chance to hear it as the eternal fate of many depend on God’s intervention in their life. For the Conference, we get to be the tool of intervention and ensure that all who are willing to listen hear of the hope that we have.
